Tables
A table is an object with rows and columns of cells holding text, numbers or formulas: bills of materials, area schedules, legends. LinceCAD creates and edits tables compatible with AutoCAD's (TABLE object), which look and plot the same in both programs.
Creating a table
TABLE opens the Insert Table dialog box:
- the table style;
- the number of columns and rows and their size (column width and row height in lines of text);
- what the first and second rows are: title, header or data;
- how it is placed: by its insertion point or with a window that sets the overall size;
- the contents: empty, from a CSV file, or pasted text (separated by tabs, commas or semicolons).
Once placed, you start typing in the first cell: Tab and Shift+Tab move to the next and previous cell, and the arrow keys move between cells.
Selecting and editing cells
With no command running:
- a click inside a cell selects it; Shift+click or dragging to another cell selects a range;
- double-clicking a cell, or TABLEDIT, edits its text with the multiline text editor.
With cells selected, the Table Cell palette appears: insert and delete rows and columns, merge and unmerge cells, alignment, text height and color, fill color, and quick formulas (Sum, Average, Count). Each button is equivalent to TABLECELL and is undone separately. The PROPERTIES palette also shows Table and Cells sections.
Formulas
A cell that starts with = is a formula. References are column and row, as in a spreadsheet (A3, B2:B9).
| Formula | Result |
|---|---|
=Sum(B2:B9) | Sum of the range |
=Average(B2:B9) | Average |
=Count(B2:B9) | Number of cells with a value |
=Min(B2:B9), =Max(B2:B9) | Minimum and maximum |
=B2*C2+1 | Arithmetic with +, -, * and / between cells and numbers |
Formulas are recalculated when a cell changes, and a formula can use the result of another. A decimal comma is accepted, as in Spanish AutoCAD. They are stored as AutoCAD stores them, so AutoCAD keeps calculating them.
Grips
A selected table has grips to move it, to change the width of each column, the overall width and height (at the corners), and the height of each row. COPY, ROTATE, SCALE and EXPLODE work with tables as with any other object.
Table styles
TABLESTYLE creates and modifies table styles: cell margins and, for each kind of cell (title, header and data), text style and height, color, fill and alignment. The current style (CTABLESTYLE) can also be chosen on the ribbon, Annotate tab, Tables panel.
Import and export
- CSV: TABLE imports it when the table is created; TABLEEXPORT saves the cells of a table to a CSV file, with formulas as their values.
- ATTEXT creates a table with the attributes of blocks.
Notes
- Formulas do not update their references when rows or columns are inserted or deleted.
- Rows grow with the text but do not shrink by themselves. SCALE does not change text heights.
- In DWG 2000, formulas are saved as values (in DXF 2000 they are kept).
- There are no data links to Excel: use CSV.
