Displays and edits the properties of the selection.
- Command:
PROPERTIES· Global name:_PROPERTIES· Alias:PR,CH,MO,PROPS,DDCHPROP,DDMODIFY· Shortcut: Ctrl+1 - Ribbon: Home › Properties
- Ribbon: View › Palettes
- Menu: View
- Menu: Modify
- Toolbar: Standard
Opens and closes the Properties palette, which shows the properties of the selected objects and lets you change them by typing or choosing from a list. With nothing selected, it shows the current properties of the drawing, the ones that new objects will take.
Usage
- Enter PROPERTIES (or PR), press Ctrl+1 or click Properties on the ribbon. Doing it again closes the palette.
- Select objects, before or with the palette open: the palette updates by itself.
- Change a value: in text boxes, type and press Enter (or leave the box); in drop-down lists, choose.
The palette
- Top drop-down list: the selected objects grouped by type, with their count (All (…) when there are several types). Choose a type to see and change only those objects. With nothing selected it reads No selection.
- General (or General (current drawing) with no selection): Color, Layer, Linetype, Linetype scale, Lineweight and Transparency.
- Sections depending on the type: Geometry (coordinates, radius, length, area...), Text, Dimension and Overrides, Table and Cell, Misc.
- For a polyline, Vertex has
<and>buttons to step through the vertices and change their coordinates. - For a block: Attributes (read-only; change them with EATTEDIT) and, for a dynamic block, Custom with its parameters.
- For texts and dimensions: Annotative (Yes or No) makes the object annotative with the current annotation scale or turns it back to normal, and Annotative scales shows the scales it supports (read-only; change them with OBJECTSCALE).
- Click the title of a section to collapse or expand it.
Notes
- The palette can be docked to the left or right of the drawing and set to auto-hide with the buttons in its header (◂ ▸ ◻ 📌); see The user interface.
- When the selected objects have different values, VARIES is shown; what you type is applied to all of them.
- Calculated values (deltas, length, angle of a line, area...) are dimmed: they cannot be typed.
- Lengths and coordinates use the drawing units (UNITS).
- The color list offers ByLayer, ByBlock, the 7 standard colors, the 255 index colors and a True color applied with Apply.
- Transparency is ByLayer, ByBlock or 0 to 90 %, in steps of 10. With nothing selected it is the one for new objects (CETRANSPARENCY). It is saved in DWG files from version 2004.
- Double-clicking an object with no command running selects it and opens the palette (for texts, hatches, tables and blocks it opens their editor instead). Every change can be undone with UNDO.
