WBLOCK — Write Block
Writes a block to a DWG or DXF drawing file.
- Command:
WBLOCK· Global name:_WBLOCK· Alias:W,ACADWBLOCKDIALOG - Ribbon: Insert › Block
- Menu: Insert
Saves a block, the whole drawing or some objects as a new DWG or DXF drawing, to use it in other drawings or in a library folder.
Usage
- Enter WBLOCK (or W) or click the button. Objects already selected are used as a starting point.
- In the Write Block dialog box, choose the source: - Block: one of the blocks of the drawing. - Entire drawing: the whole model space. - Objects: the base point (coordinates or Specify On-screen) and the objects (the selected ones or, with Specify On-screen, those you select after OK), and whether they are retained, converted to a block (a block of the drawing named like the file) or deleted.
- Enter the file name and path (or browse with …) and click OK.
In scripts, SCRIPT and AutoLISP there is no dialog box: everything is asked on the command line, as in -WBLOCK.
Notes
- The contents go to the model space of the new drawing, with the layers, linetypes, styles and nested blocks they use. The base point becomes the drawing's base point (INSBASE).
- The file is saved in the version of the current drawing (DWG 2018 if the current one is older than 2000). If it already exists, it is replaced and a
.bakcopy is left. - As in AutoCAD, the file only carries the blocks, layers, linetypes and styles it uses (the rest is purged, as with PURGE).
- To insert the file into another drawing, enter its path in -INSERT or use Browse… in the INSERT palette. The dialog box cannot be scripted in the AutoCAD console: it has a unit test.
