ADCENTER — DesignCenter
Browses other drawings and copies their blocks, layers, linetypes, styles and layouts.
- Command:
ADCENTER· Global name:_ADCENTER· Alias:ADC,DC,DCENTER,CONTENT - Ribbon: Insert › Content
- Ribbon: View › Palettes
- Menu: Insert
Opens the DesignCenter window, which browses other drawings and copies their blocks, layers, linetypes, text styles, dimension styles and layouts into the current one. Enter the command again to close it.
Usage
- Enter ADCENTER (or ADC, DC) or click the button.
- In the tree on the left, choose a drawing under Open Drawings or in a library folder. Add Folder… adds another folder to the tree (and to the Libraries tab of INSERT).
- Choose the category at the top right; each one shows how many entries the drawing has.
- Choose an entry and click a button:
- Insert (blocks only): starts inserting the block, like a click in the Blocks palette. Double-clicking the thumbnail or dragging it onto the drawing does the same.
- Add to Tool Palette (blocks only): adds it to the visible tool palette (TOOLPALETTES).
- Add to Drawing: copies the entry into the current drawing with whatever it needs (for example, a dimension style with its text style). Double-clicking a layer or a style does the same.
Notes
- The tree has Open Drawings, History (recent files) and the library folders; the search field above filters drawings by name.
- The palette can be docked to the left or right of the drawing and set to auto-hide with the buttons in its header (◂ ▸ ◻ 📌); see The user interface.
- If the current drawing already has an entry with that name, its own is kept and a message is shown on the command line.
- Copying into the drawing is undone with UNDO in a single step.
- An open drawing that has not been saved yet cannot be added to a tool palette: the tool needs its file.
- Drawings larger than 20 MB in library folders are not browsed; insert them with Browse… in the Blocks palette.
