PURGE — Purge
Removes unused items from the drawing: blocks, layers, linetypes, styles…
- Command:
PURGE· Global name:_PURGE· Alias:PU - Ribbon: Manage › Drawing
- Menu: File
Removes from the drawing what is not used: block definitions, layers, linetypes and styles that nothing refers to, plus zero-length geometry and empty text objects. It makes the file lighter and keeps the layer and style lists tidy.
Usage
- Enter PURGE (or PU) or click its button. The Purge dialog box opens with the Purgeable items: list, grouped by type and with the number of items in each group.
- Expand the groups and check what you want to remove.
- Click Purge Checked Items, or Purge All to remove everything in the list. The command line says how many items were purged.
Options
- Show items you cannot purge: Items that other objects still use; they are not purged.
- Purge nested items (checked by default): Also removes what becomes unused when the selected items are removed (for example, layers only used by a purged block).
What can be purged
Blocks, Layers, Linetypes, Text styles, Shapes, Dimension styles, Multileader styles, Table styles, Multiline styles, Plot styles, Registered applications, Zero-length geometry and Empty text objects.
Notes
- An item is only removed if nothing uses it: no object (including those inside blocks), no other table and not the drawing header. Layer 0, the Standard styles and other default items, the current ones and those of external references are never purged.
- Purging is undone with UNDO.
- To purge from the command line or in a script, use -PURGE.
