- Command:
UNITS· Global name:_UNITS· Alias:UN,DDUNITS - Ribbon: Manage › Drawing
- Menu: Format
Sets how the lengths and angles of the drawing are written and the unit used to scale inserted content. The choice is saved in the drawing and used by the command line, the status bar, the Properties palette and the inquiry commands (DIST, AREA, LIST…).
Usage
- Enter UNITS (or UN) or click its button. The Drawing Units dialog box opens.
- Choose the formats. The Sample Output box shows how a coordinate and an angle will look.
- Click OK. The change can be undone with UNDO.
The dialog box
- Length: Type: (Architectural, Decimal, Engineering, Fractional or Scientific) and Precision:, from 0 to 8 decimal places (or the smallest fraction).
- Angle: Type: (Decimal Degrees, Deg/Min/Sec, Grads, Radians or Surveyor's Units), Precision: and the Clockwise check box.
- Insertion scale: Units to scale inserted content: millimeters, meters, inches, feet and the rest of AutoCAD's units, or Unitless.
- Base angle direction (degrees): 0 = East, 90 = North, 180 = West, 270 = South.
Notes
- They correspond to the system variables LUNITS, LUPREC, AUNITS, AUPREC, ANGDIR, ANGBASE and INSUNITS, which can also be changed with SETVAR.
- The decimal separator (comma or point) belongs to the application, not to the drawing: choose it in OPTIONS.
- Changing the units does not change the size of anything: only how the numbers are written.
