STRETCH — Stretch
Stretches objects by moving the vertices inside a crossing window.
- Command:
STRETCH· Global name:_STRETCH· Alias:S - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
- Toolbar: Modify
Stretches objects by moving only the vertices and endpoints that lie inside a crossing window; the rest of each object stays where it was. Use it, for example, to lengthen a part or move a door without redrawing the walls.
Usage
- Enter STRETCH (or S) or click Stretch on the ribbon.
- Select the objects with a crossing window (dragged from right to left) that encloses the points to move. You can make several crossing windows. Press Enter.
Select objects to stretch by crossing-window:
- Specify the base point and the second point, as in MOVE. The preview moves only the captured points.
Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>:
Notes
- The endpoints of lines, arcs (which keep their angle) and the vertices of polylines that fall inside a crossing window are moved. An object that lies completely inside a crossing window is moved as a whole.
- Elliptical arcs: the endpoints inside the window move and the arc keeps its shape (it rotates and scales about the other endpoint). A full ellipse, a circle, a text, a block or a point moves if its center or insertion point is inside, as in AutoCAD.
- Splines: the fit points inside the window move and the curve is refitted; without fit data, the control vertices.
- Dimensions: their definition points (extension line origins, dimension line and text) move and the dimension is measured again. An associative dimension stretched with its geometry follows it; stretched alone, it is disassociated.
- Multilines (MLINE): their vertices move. Hatches: the vertices of their boundary move; if the boundary object is stretched too, an associative hatch follows it.
- At least one crossing window is needed: if you only select with clicks, a message says so. Preselection is not used.
- With no command running, grips stretch point by point: select the object, click a grip (it turns red) and take the point to its new place. It is the first mode; Space switches to move, rotate, scale and mirror.
Specify stretch point or [Base point/Copy/eXit]:
- With the CPolygon option you draw a crossing polygon (Enter closes it; Undo removes the last point); it also selects what it touches. Displacement option as in MOVE.
