LENGTHEN — Lengthen
Lengthens or shortens lines, arcs and open polylines.
- Command:
LENGTHEN· Global name:_LENGTHEN· Alias:LEN - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
Measures or changes the length of lines, arcs, open polylines, elliptical arcs and open splines: it lengthens or shortens the end nearest to the point where you select, along the curve itself.
Usage
- Enter LENGTHEN (or LEN).
- Select an object to see its length (and the included angle, for an arc), or choose how to change it. Enter repeats the previous mode and value.
Select an object to measure or [DElta/Percent/Total/DYnamic] <…>:
- Enter the value of the chosen mode.
- Select each object near the end you want to change. The prompt repeats; Enter finishes.
Select an object to change or [Undo]:
Options
- DElta (DE): adds that length (negative shortens). With Angle (A), an angle in degrees is added to an arc.
Enter delta length or [Angle] <…>:
- Percent (P): the new length is that percentage of the current one (50 halves it).
Enter percentage length <…>:
- Total (T): leaves the object with that total length (or, with Angle, an arc with that total angle).
Specify total length or [Angle] <…>:
- DYnamic (DY): after you select the object, its end follows the cursor up to the point you specify.
Specify new end point:
- Undo (U): undoes the last change without leaving the command.
Notes
- A line is lengthened in its direction and an arc, along its circle; in a polyline the end segment is lengthened or the polyline is trimmed along itself.
- An elliptical arc is lengthened or shortened along its ellipse. An open spline can only be shortened: as in AutoCAD, lengthening it leaves it unchanged. Whole ellipses and closed splines are not changed. Preselection is not used.
