GEOGRAPHICLOCATION — Geographic Location
Assigns a coordinate system (EPSG code) to the drawing.
- Command:
GEOGRAPHICLOCATION· Global name:_GEOGRAPHICLOCATION· Alias:GEO,NORTH,NORTHDIR - Ribbon: Insert › Geolocation
- Ribbon: Mapping › Geolocation
- Menu: Insert
- Menu: Mapping
Assigns a coordinate system to the drawing, for example ETRS89 / UTM 30N. With it, the drawing knows which point on Earth each coordinate corresponds to: the status bar shows the cursor's latitude and longitude, and GEOIMAGE, MAPIMPORT, MAPEXPORT and GEOCOORD can reproject.
Usage
- Enter GEOGRAPHICLOCATION (or GEO) or click the button. The Geographic Location dialog box opens and, at the same time, the command line asks.
- Choose the system in the dialog box and click OK, or enter its code on the command line: the EPSG code (
25830,2154,31983) or the AutoCAD code (ETRS89.UTM-30N,Lambert93).
In the dialog box, systems are grouped by country or region (click a group to expand it). To find one, type part of its EPSG code, its name or the country in Search (EPSG code, name or country): 2154, Lambert, France, UTM zone 19S.
Enter EPSG code of the coordinate system or [Remove/List] <…>:
Options
- Remove (R): removes the coordinate system from the drawing.
- List (L): lists the available systems, with their EPSG code, AutoCAD code and name.
Notes
- The drawing is assumed to be already drawn in coordinates of that system, as is usual in survey drawings. A drawing with local coordinates cannot be placed on a point of the map.
- It is saved the way AutoCAD saves it; if AutoCAD does not know the system, its full definition is saved.
- There are 303 systems: WGS 84 / UTM in every zone, ETRS89 (UTM 28N–38N and LAEA), the national systems of Europe (Lambert-93, PT-TM06, RD New, LV95, Lambert 72 and 2008, PL-1992, Gauss-Krüger, British National Grid, ITM…), Latin America (SIRGAS 2000, Mexico ITRF2008, POSGAR 2007, SIRGAS-Chile, MAGNA-SIRGAS…) and North Africa (Merchich, Nord Sahara 1959, Carthage, Egypt 1907, LGD2006). The full table and the accuracy of each datum shift are in Georeferencing.
- With ED50, a message tells how it is transformed to ETRS89: with the official IGN grid if it is installed or, otherwise, with 7 parameters (about 1.5 m of error).
