ELLIPSE — Ellipse
Creates an ellipse or an elliptical arc.
- Command:
ELLIPSE· Global name:_ELLIPSE· Alias:EL - Ribbon: Home › Draw
- Menu: Draw
- Toolbar: Draw
Draws an ellipse or an elliptical arc. The ellipse is defined by one axis (its two endpoints, or the center and one endpoint) and by the distance to the other axis or by a rotation.
Usage
- Enter ELLIPSE (or EL) or click Ellipse.
- Specify one endpoint of the first axis, or enter an option.
Specify axis endpoint of ellipse or [Arc/Center]:
- Specify the other endpoint of that axis.
Specify other endpoint of axis:
- Specify the distance from the center to the other axis, with a point or a number.
Specify distance to other axis or [Rotation]:
Options
- Center (C): starts with the center and then one endpoint of the first axis.
Specify center of ellipse: Specify endpoint of axis:
- Rotation (R): instead of the distance, the rotation of a circle about the first axis, from 0 to 89.4 degrees (0 gives a circle).
Specify rotation around major axis:
- Arc (A): draws an elliptical arc. After the ellipse is defined, it asks where it starts and where it ends.
Specify start angle or [Parameter]: Specify end angle or [Parameter/Included angle]:
- Parameter (P) and Angle (A): switch between giving angles (the direction from the center) and parameters (the angle in the parametric equation of the ellipse).
- Included angle (I): the end as the angle swept from the start.
- Isocircle (I): only with isometric drafting on (ISODRAFT); the first prompt offers it. It draws the ellipse that represents a circle in the current isometric plane: specify the center and the radius, or choose Diameter (D) and give the diameter.
Specify axis endpoint of ellipse or [Arc/Center/Isocircle]: Specify radius of isocircle or [Diameter]:
Notes
- The first axis may turn out to be the major or the minor one: if the distance to the other axis is greater than half the first one, the other becomes the major axis.
- The angles and parameters of the arc are measured from the first axis specified and counterclockwise, as in AutoCAD.
- A true ellipse (ELLIPSE) is created, not a polyline that approximates it.
