- Menu: Dimension
Dimensions the true distance between two points, with the dimension line parallel to the segment that joins them, also when it is diagonal.
Usage
- Enter DIMALIGNED (or DAL) or click Aligned on the ribbon.
- Specify the first extension line origin, or press Enter to select an object.
Specify first extension line origin or <select object>:
- Specify the second extension line origin.
Specify second extension line origin:
- Specify how far from the points the dimension line goes.
Specify dimension line location or [Mtext/Text/Angle]:
Selecting an object
With Enter at the first step you select an object: the endpoints of a line, an arc or a polyline segment are the origins; for a circle, the diameter through the selected point.
Select object to dimension:
Notes
- The dimension uses the current dimension style (DIMSTYLE); change it with DIMSTYLE.
- To change the dimension text use DIMEDIT.
- DIMCONTINUE and DIMBASELINE can start from an aligned dimension.
- If its points lie on the geometry (endpoint, midpoint, center...), the dimension is associated with it and follows it when it is moved, stretched or scaled (DIMASSOC). With an annotative dimension style, the dimension is annotative.
- Location options, as in AutoCAD: Mtext (multiline editor, starting with
<>), Text (one line;<>is the measurement) and Angle (text rotation). You can also change the text afterwards with DIMEDIT.
