XCLIP — Clip
Shows only part of an external reference or a block, inside or outside a boundary.
- Command:
XCLIP· Global name:_XCLIP· Alias:XC - Ribbon: Insert › Reference
Shows only part of an external reference or a block: what lies inside a boundary or, with the boundary inverted, what lies outside it. The reference itself does not change: the boundary can be turned off or removed later.
Usage
- Enter XCLIP (or XC) or click the button.
- Select the external references or blocks and press Enter.
Select objects:
- Choose the option; Enter creates a new boundary.
Enter clipping option [ON/OFF/Clipdepth/Delete/Polyline/New boundary] <New>:
- If any of them was already clipped, confirm that its boundary is replaced.
Delete old boundary(s)? [Yes/No] <Yes>:
- Choose the boundary type; Enter, rectangular.
Outside mode: objects outside the boundary will be hidden. Specify clipping boundary [Select polyline/Polygonal/Rectangular/Invert clip] <Rectangular>:
- For a rectangular one, specify two opposite corners; for a polygonal one, the vertices and Enter (or Close) when there are at least three.
Specify first corner point:
Options
- New (N): draws a new boundary.
- ON / OFF (ON / OFF): turns on or off the boundary they already have.
- Delete (D): removes the boundary; they are shown whole again.
- Polyline (P): creates a polyline with the shape of the boundary of each clipped object.
- Clipdepth (C): the front and back planes of the clips: a point (its Z) or Distance from the boundary; Remove removes the plane.
Specify front clip point or [Distance/Remove]:
- Select (S): uses a closed polyline with straight segments as the boundary.
Select polyline:
- Polygonal (P) and Rectangular (R): the type of boundary to draw.
- Invert (I): switches between hiding what is outside and hiding what is inside.
Inside mode: objects inside the boundary will be hidden. Specify clipping boundary [Select polyline/Polygonal/Rectangular/Invert clip] <Rectangular>:
Notes
- The boundary is shown if XCLIPFRAME is not 0, on the layer and in the color of the insert.
- It is saved as in AutoCAD (a spatial filter on the insert): AutoCAD shows it the same way.
- Clipdepth saves the front and back clipping planes, but the plan view does not clip by Z (AutoCAD does, in 3D).
- For PDF underlays, use PDFCLIP; for images, IMAGECLIP.
