STEPOUT — Export to STEP
Saves the 3D solids to a STEP file (AP214, millimetres) for other CAD programs.
- Command:
STEPOUT· Global name:_STEPOUT· Alias:STEP - Ribbon: Output › Export
Saves the drawing's 3D solids to a STEP file (ISO 10303, AP214 protocol, in millimetres), the exchange format that mechanical CAD programs read.
Usage
- Type STEPOUT (or STEP) or click Export to STEP.
- Select the 3D solids, or press Enter to export all of them.
Select 3D solids <all>:
- Give the output file (
.stepis added when it has no extension).
STEP file:
What is exact and what is faceted
- Exact (analytic surfaces, not approximated): box, wedge, pyramid, cylinder, cone, sphere and torus, and any planar-faced solid without holes (for example, the extrusion of a polygon).
- Faceted: everything else (extrusions with arcs, revolutions of general profiles, fillets, results of curved Booleans…) is written as flat triangulated faces at the FACETRES fineness. When it finishes, the command line tells you how many solids were faceted.
Notes
- Only 3DSOLIDs are exported (not surfaces, regions or meshes; use STLOUT for those).
- If a faceted solid does not close, it is written as an open surface instead of a solid, and it is also counted in the warning.
- Solids that cannot be tessellated are skipped, and you are told how many.
