POINTCLOUD — Import point cloud
Imports a LAS or LAZ point cloud (LiDAR).
- Command:
POINTCLOUD· Global name:_POINTCLOUD - Ribbon: Topography › Points
- Menu: Survey
Imports a LiDAR point cloud (LAS or LAZ files) and shows it in the drawing as point objects, in the drawing's coordinates.
Usage
- Enter POINTCLOUD or click the button on the Survey tab. The dialog box opens and the command line asks at the same time.
- Choose the LAS or LAZ file with Browse or enter its path. The number of points and how many remain after subsampling are shown.
- Choose the point colour (RGB, intensity, class or elevation) and, if needed, the file's coordinate system.
- Click OK.
Notes
- Reading is pure Rust (the
lascrate with LASziplaz), with no C components. - Large clouds are subsampled to a manageable number (maximum points configurable in the dialog): 1 of every N points, spread across the whole file, is kept.
- If the file carries its coordinate system (WKT) it is reprojected to the drawing's (GEOGRAPHICLOCATION); if not, you can enter it by hand.
- Each point is an ordinary point object: the 2D and 3D viewers draw it and it is saved in the DWG. The massive engine (billions of points) is out of scope in this version.
