PEDIT — Edit Polyline
Edits polylines: close, join, width, vertices, fit and spline.
- Command:
PEDIT· Global name:_PEDIT· Alias:PE - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
Edits polylines: closes or opens them, joins other objects to them, changes their width, edits their vertices and turns them into curves. It also converts lines and arcs into polylines.
Usage
- Enter PEDIT (or PE).
- Select a polyline, or choose Multiple to select several. If you select a line or an arc, you are offered to turn it into a polyline. With preselection: one object is edited directly and several go into Multiple.
Select polyline or [Multiple]: Object selected is not a polyline. Do you want to turn it into one? [Yes/No] <Y>:
- Choose options; the prompt repeats until you press Enter.
Enter an option [Close/Join/Width/Edit vertex/Fit/Spline/Decurve/Ltype gen/Reverse/Undo]:
Options
- Close (C) / Open (O): closes the polyline with a last segment or opens it.
- Join (J): adds lines, arcs and open polylines that touch its ends. In Multiple it also asks for a fuzz distance and the join type (Extend, Add or Both) to fill the gaps.
- Width (W): the same width for every segment.
- Edit vertex (E): walks the vertices with a cross (Next, Previous) and lets you Break, Insert, Move, Straighten, set the Tangent or the Width of the segment; eXit goes back. Only with one polyline.
Enter a vertex editing option [Next/Previous/Break/Insert/Move/Regen/Straighten/Tangent/Width/eXit] <N>:
- Fit (F): curve of tangent arcs through the vertices.
- Spline (S): curve that uses the vertices as its frame (SPLINETYPE, SPLINESEGS).
- Decurve (D): removes the fit or the curve and leaves straight segments.
- Ltype gen (L): continuous linetype generation (ON/OFF).
- Reverse (R): reverses the direction. Undo (U): undoes the last option.
Notes
- Decurve recovers the original frame only within the same PEDIT; afterwards it straightens the segments.
- Only lightweight polylines (LWPOLYLINE), the ones PLINE creates, can be edited.
