SPLINEDIT — Edit Spline
Edits splines: fit points, control vertices, close, reverse and convert to polyline.
- Command:
SPLINEDIT· Global name:_SPLINEDIT· Alias:SPE - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
Edits a spline, as in AutoCAD 2027: closes or opens it, joins other curves to it, changes its fit points or its control vertices, elevates its order, reverses its direction or converts it into a polyline.
Usage
- Enter SPLINEDIT (or SPE).
- Select the spline. If it was selected (on its own) before starting the command, it is used without asking.
Select spline:
- Choose options; the prompt repeats until you choose eXit or press Enter.
Enter an option […/Join/…Edit vertex/convert to Polyline/Reverse/Undo/eXit] <eXit>:
Options
- Close (C) / Open (O): closes or opens the spline (the prompt offers the one that applies).
- Join (J): joins to the spline the selected open splines and lines that start or end at one of its ends (reversing them if needed), as in AutoCAD: the knots of the joined curve follow those of the spline and the joint keeps a multiplicity equal to the degree; joining a line makes the spline rational.
Select any open curves to join to the source:
- Fit data (F): only if the spline has fit points. Lets you Add, Delete and Move fit points, add a Kink (a corner at a point of the curve), change the end Tangents, the toLerance or Purge the fit data (only the control vertices remain). The curve is recalculated.
Enter a fit data option [Add/…/Delete/Kink/Move/Purge/Tangents/toLerance/eXit] <eXit>: Specify point on the spline <exit>:
- Edit vertex (E): Add a control vertex without changing the shape, Delete or Move vertices, Elevate order (higher degree, same curve) and change their Weight. Editing the vertices removes the fit data.
Enter a vertex editing option [Add/Delete/Elevate order/Move/Weight/eXit] <eXit>: Enter new order <…>:
- Polyline (P): replaces the spline with a polyline that approximates it.
Specify a precision <10>:
- Reverse (R): reverses the direction of the curve.
- Undo (U): undoes the last option. eXit (X): ends.
Notes
- When moving points you walk them with Next and Previous, or pick one with Select point.
- A kink leaves the spline without fit data (two fit splines joined at the corner); AutoCAD keeps it with them. Join does not join arcs, polylines or ellipses yet.
- The tolerance is saved, but the curve still goes through the fit points.
- With no command running, the spline grips can also be dragged.
