EXTEND — Extend
Extends objects to the nearest boundary.
- Command:
EXTEND· Global name:_EXTEND· Alias:EX - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
- Toolbar: Modify
Extends an object from the end you pick until it touches the first object it meets (the boundary edges).
Usage
- Enter EXTEND (or EX) or click Extend on the ribbon.
- In Quick mode (default, TRIMEXTENDMODE=1) every object in the drawing is a boundary: click each object near the end you want to extend. The prompt repeats to extend more.
Select object to extend or shift-select to trim or [Boundary edges/Crossing/mOde/Project/eRase]:
- In Standard mode you first select the boundary edges (Enter = all objects).
Select cutting edges... Select objects or [mOde] <select all>:
- Press Enter or Esc to finish.
Options
The same as TRIM: boundary edges, Fence/Crossing, mOde, Project, Edge (Extend), eRase and Undo.
Notes
- Extends lines, arcs and open polylines; boundaries can be lines, arcs, circles and polylines. An arc is extended along its circle.
- If the object, once extended, reaches no boundary, a message is shown and nothing changes.
- Objects are picked one at a time with a click near the end; the previous selection is not used.
- An elliptical arc is extended along its ellipse. An open cubic spline is extended, as in AutoCAD, with one more span that follows its curvature (the existing part does not change). Ellipses and splines also work as boundaries.
- With Shift held while clicking, it trims instead of extending. To extend by a distance or to a total length use LENGTHEN.
