GROUP — Group
Creates a group with the selected objects.
- Command:
GROUP· Global name:_GROUP· Alias:G - Ribbon: Home › Groups
- Menu: Modify
Creates a group with the selected objects: a named (or unnamed) set that is selected as a whole with one click, while its objects stay independent and can be edited separately.
Usage
- Enter GROUP (or G).
- If you want, choose Name or Description before selecting.
Select objects or [Name/Description]: Enter a group name or [?]: Enter a group description:
- Select the objects and press Enter: the group is created. If the objects were already selected before starting the command, the group is created at once, unnamed.
Options
- Name (N): name of the group; it cannot repeat another one.
?lists the groups in the drawing. Without a name, the group is anonymous (like AutoCAD's*A1,*A2...). - Description (D): free text saved with the group.
Notes
- While group selection is on, selecting a member selects the whole group. Ctrl+Shift+A turns it on or off; it is stored in the PICKSTYLE variable.
- Groups are saved in DWG and DXF like AutoCAD's (ACAD_GROUP dictionary).
- An erased object stops being a member; an anonymous group that becomes empty disappears.
- To change the members or the name use GROUPEDIT; to undo the group, UNGROUP. Unlike a block, a group creates no definition.
