CHECKFORUPDATES — Check for updates
Checks whether a new version of LinceCAD is available and lets you download and install it.
- Command:
CHECKFORUPDATES· Global name:_CHECKFORUPDATES - Ribbon: Manage › Help
- Menu: LinceCAD
- Menu: Help
Checks whether a new version of LinceCAD is available, shows what is new and, if you want, downloads and installs it.
Usage
- Type CHECKFORUPDATES or choose Check for updates on the application menu or on the Manage tab, Help group.
- The LinceCAD update dialog shows the Installed version and, if there is one, the New version, its date, size and release notes. If there is nothing new, it says LinceCAD is up to date.
- Choose an option: - Download and install: downloads the installer in the background, with a progress bar and Cancel. You can keep working meanwhile. - Later: closes the dialog; the notice stays on the status bar. - Skip this version: no more notices for that version (later ones are still announced). Mandatory versions cannot be skipped.
- When the download finishes, click Install and restart. If any drawing has unsaved changes, the button is Save all and install: it saves each one (with «Save as» if it has no name) and, if you cancel any, nothing is installed.
- LinceCAD closes, the installer updates the program without questions and LinceCAD opens again by itself.
Automatic check
- With Check for updates automatically on (OPTIONS, Open and Save tab), LinceCAD checks at startup and every 12 hours, in the background: it does not slow down startup or interrupt your work.
- If there is a new version, a discreet notice appears on the status bar, Update … available, which opens this dialog.
- A mandatory version (for example, an important fix) is announced more visibly and opens the dialog once, but it never blocks your work: you can install it whenever you want.
- The channel is chosen in OPTIONS: Stable (default) or Beta, which also gets preview versions.
License and maintenance
- The perpetual license includes one year of updates. Only versions released up to the end of your maintenance are offered; if there are several, the newest of them.
- If there is an even newer version, the dialog says so («Version X requires renewing maintenance») with the Renew maintenance… button, without downloading it.
- If you manually install a version released after your maintenance, LinceCAD switches to read-only with a courtesy save and this dialog offers to reinstall the latest entitled version. See License and maintenance.
What is sent and how it is protected
- Only the installed version, the channel, the language, a single-use random value and, if there is a license, the same activation token used by the 12-hour validation are sent to
https://lincecad.com/api. For gradual rollouts, a SHA-256 digest of the machine fingerprint is also sent, never the fingerprint itself. Nothing from your drawings is sent. - The answer is signed with the license server key; a copied or forged answer is discarded.
- The installer is saved in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\lince\actualizaciones\and its SHA-256 is checked before running it: if it does not match the published one, it is deleted and not installed.
Notes
- Not available in scripts, in automation (API, MCP) or if LinceCAD was installed from the Microsoft Store, which updates the program itself.
- Offline, the automatic check announces nothing; when run by hand, it says there is no connection.
