CHAMFER — Chamfer
Bevels the corner between two lines.
- Command:
CHAMFER· Global name:_CHAMFER· Alias:CHA - Ribbon: Home › Modify
- Menu: Modify
- Toolbar: Modify
Joins two lines with a chamfer (a straight line) at the given distances, trimming or extending them to it. With distances 0 it forms a sharp corner.
Usage
- Enter CHAMFER (or CHA) or click Chamfer on the ribbon.
Select first line or [Undo/Polyline/Distance/Angle/Trim/mEthod/Multiple]:
- Select the first line and then the second, each on the part you want to keep. The first distance (or the length) counts on the first line.
Select second line or shift-select to apply corner or [Distance/Angle/Method]:
- The chamfer is created and the command ends (with Multiple it keeps asking for pairs until Enter).
Options
- Distance: the two distances (CHAMFERA and CHAMFERB; Enter on the second repeats the first).
Specify first chamfer distance <…>:
- Angle: length on the first line (CHAMFERC) and angle with it (CHAMFERD, in radians).
Specify chamfer length on the first line <…>:
- Method: Distance or Angle (CHAMMODE).
- Polyline: chamfers all straight vertices of a 2D polyline.
- Trim: Trim or No trim (TRIMMODE). Without trimming only the chamfer is added.
- Multiple and Undo.
Notes
- Works only with lines and polylines. If the distances do not fit, a message is shown.
- The chamfer goes on the layer of the first line if both share a layer; otherwise on the current layer.
- With Shift held when selecting the second line, a sharp corner. Two straight segments of the same polyline, adjacent or separated by an arc (which is replaced by the chamfer), or the first or last segment of an open polyline with a line, are chamfered as in FILLET, as in AutoCAD 2027. The Polyline option leaves the vertices next to an arc unchanged.
