TEXT — Single Line Text
Creates a single line of text.
- Command:
TEXT· Global name:_TEXT· Alias:DT,DTEXT - Ribbon: Home › Annotation
- Ribbon: Annotate › Text
- Menu: Draw
Creates single-line text. Each line you type is a separate text object; after Enter, the next line starts below, as in a word processor. For a formatted paragraph, use MTEXT.
Usage
- Enter TEXT (or DT) or click Single Line Text on the ribbon.
- Specify the start point (the text baseline) or choose an option.
Specify start point of text or [Justify/Style]:
- If the text style has no fixed height, enter the height (a number or a second point).
Specify height <…>:
- Enter the rotation angle (a number in degrees or a point).
Specify rotation angle of text <…>:
- Type the text and press Enter. The line is created and the next one is requested, below the previous one.
Enter text:
- Press Enter on an empty line to finish.
Options
- Justify (J): changes which point of the text sits on the start point. Left, Center, Right and Middle use the baseline; the two-letter options combine Top, Middle or Bottom with Left, Center or Right (TL = top left, MC = middle center, BR = bottom right…). As in AutoCAD, the justification can also be typed directly at the first prompt.
Enter an option [Left/Center/Right/Align/Middle/Fit/TL/TC/TR/ML/MC/MR/BL/BC/BR]:
- Align (A): specify both endpoints of the baseline; the height comes from their distance and the text spans exactly that segment, with its rotation.
- Fit (F): like Align, but with the height you enter: the width factor changes.
Specify second endpoint of text baseline:
- Style (S): chooses the text style for this command. ? lists the styles in the drawing.
Enter style name or [?] <…>:
Notes
- The text uses the current style (TEXTSTYLE) with its font, width factor and oblique angle, and the current layer, color and linetype.
- The height offered is the last one used (TEXTSIZE variable); the first time, 2.5.
- With an annotative style (STYLE check box), the text is created annotative and the height you enter is the paper height: at the 1:50 annotation scale (CANNOSCALE), a 2.5 text measures 125 drawing units.
- A text can hold fields (date, file name...): see FIELD.
- The rotation angle is measured from the X axis of the current UCS (see UCS), as in AutoCAD.
- To change the contents later, double-click the text or use TEXTEDIT.
