IMAGEATTACH — Attach Image
Attaches a raster image (PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF or WebP) to the drawing.
- Command:
IMAGEATTACH· Global name:_IMAGEATTACH· Alias:IAT - Ribbon: Insert › Image and tracing
Attaches a raster image (PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF or WebP) to the drawing: a scanned drawing, a photo or an orthophoto. The image is not copied into the drawing: its path is saved and the file is read when the drawing opens.
Usage
- Enter IMAGEATTACH (or IAT) or click the button.
- Enter the image path, or press Enter to choose it in a dialog box. Its size at scale 1 is shown.
Enter image file name to attach or [Browse] <Browse>:
- Specify the lower-left corner of the image (Enter: the origin).
Specify insertion point or [Path] <0,0>:
- Enter the scale or specify a point: its distance to the insertion point is the width of the image.
Specify scale factor <1>:
- Enter the rotation angle or specify a point in that direction.
Specify rotation angle <0>:
In the interface (not in scripts, SCRIPT or AutoLISP), after choosing the image the Attach Image dialog box opens: its size in pixels, the path type and the insertion point, scale and rotation; whatever you leave as Specify On-screen is specified afterwards, with the prompts of steps 3 to 5. The dialog box cannot be scripted in the AutoCAD console: it has a unit test.
Options
- Browse (B): opens the dialog box to choose the file (so do
~and Enter). - Path (P): chooses how the path is saved.
Path type [Relative/Full] <Relative>:
- Relative (R): relative to the drawing's folder; the drawing and the image can be moved together. If the drawing has not been saved yet or the image is on another drive, the full path is saved.
- Full (F): the full path.
Notes
- At scale 1, if the file states its resolution and the drawing has units (INSUNITS), the image comes in at its real size; if either is missing, it is 1 unit wide.
- If the file is not found at its path when the drawing opens, a file with the same name is looked for in the drawing's folder.
- The image frame is controlled with IMAGEFRAME. Images are listed in XREF.
- For an image with a world file or GeoTIFF tags, use GEOIMAGE: it is placed at its coordinates automatically.
