TOLERANCE — Tolerance
Creates a geometric tolerance feature control frame.
- Command:
TOLERANCE· Global name:_TOLERANCE· Alias:TOL - Ribbon: Annotate › Dimensions
Creates a geometric tolerance feature control frame: a row of compartments with the geometric characteristic symbol, the tolerance value and the datum references, as used in mechanical drawings.
Usage
- Enter TOLERANCE (or TOL). The Geometric Tolerance dialog box opens.
- Fill in the frame and click OK, or type it on the command line.
Use the dialog or type the frame (symbol tolerance datums; e.g. j %%c0.05M A B):
- Specify where the frame goes.
Enter tolerance location:
The dialog box
- Symbol: the geometric characteristic (position, flatness, perpendicularity...).
- Tolerance 1: the Ø box puts the diameter symbol before the value; the list on the right adds the material condition (M, L or S).
- Datum …: up to three datum reference letters (A, B, C...). Empty ones are not drawn.
Typing the frame
Type the symbol, the tolerance and the datums separated by spaces: j %%c0.05M A B is a position tolerance of diameter 0.05 at maximum material condition, referred to A and B. The tolerance accepts %%c or Ø before it and M, L or S after it.
| Letter | Characteristic | Letter | Characteristic |
|---|---|---|---|
| j | Position | g | Cylindricity |
| r | Concentricity | c | Flatness |
| i | Symmetry | e | Circularity |
| f | Parallelism | u | Straightness |
| b | Perpendicularity | d | Profile of a surface |
| a | Angularity | k | Profile of a line |
| h | Circular runout | t | Total runout |
Notes
- The text height and the compartment gap come from the current dimension style (DIMSTYLE); with an annotative style the frame is annotative too.
- The symbols are drawn with lines, without needing the AutoCAD GDT font.
- The dialog has, as AutoCAD's, two tolerances per row (with diameter and material modifier), three datums with their modifier, an optional second row and the projected tolerance zone (its height).
