CAD software with a perpetual license, no subscription

Many CAD programs are now sold only by subscription: you pay every year and, if you stop paying, you lose access to the program. LinceCAD is sold with a perpetual license: a one-time purchase per user, with no yearly fees. It is a 2D and 3D CAD program that opens and saves DWG natively, for Windows and Linux.

The 30-day trial

The trial starts when you begin it in the program with your email, using the LICENSE command. For 30 days you have every feature, with nothing cut out. Activation is online and tied to your computer.

Read-only mode

If the trial ends and you don’t buy, LinceCAD does not lock you out: it switches to read-only mode. You can still open your drawings, view them, measure them, export them to PDF and print them, so you never lose access to your work. Buying the license unlocks editing again.

Moving to another computer

The license is per user and non-transferable, and it is activated on one computer. To change computers, you release it on the old one from the program itself and activate it on the new one. You can do this up to 3 times every 12 months; if you need more, support will sort it out.

Internet connection

The license is checked with a digital signature and validated online every 12 hours. If the computer is offline, there is a 7-day grace period before it needs to be validated again.

How to buy

  1. In LinceCAD, type LICENSE and click “Buy license…”.
  2. Stripe’s checkout page opens in your browser, with the taxes of your country.
  3. Once the payment is confirmed, the program activates on that computer and you receive the license key, the receipt and the invoice by email.

We do not store your card details. LinceCAD is in beta: purchases will open in the program with the launch version.

Perpetual versus subscription

With a subscription, the cost repeats every year and access depends on continuing to pay. With a perpetual license, you pay once and the program keeps working. As a reference, the comparison with AutoCAD LT works out the cost over three years, and the article AutoCAD alternatives reviews other CAD programs with perpetual or subscription licenses. And if you ever stop using LinceCAD, your drawings are still standard DWG files that open in any compatible program.

What you buy

A CAD program with 2D drafting and editing, annotation, dynamic blocks, layouts and plotting to PDF, 3D solid modeling and rendering, AutoLISP, a Python API, WMS and WFS mapping and surveying tools. It opens DWG from R14 to 2018 and DXF from R12 to 2018. The full list, including what it doesn’t do yet, is on the features page.
